For a useful first report, choose an established competitor with enough recent 1–3 star reviews. Very new apps or apps with few low-rating reviews may not produce a report.
1. Define the job
Choose one customer job and one competitor that people already use to complete it.
2. Preserve the source
Keep the review excerpt, app context, and consequence rather than only a generated summary.
3. Check repetition
Group evidence only when the job and failure are materially the same. Then repeat the check across close alternatives.
4. Ask before building
Turn each credible cluster into an interview prompt about frequency, workaround, cost, and willingness to change.
Use the template for a small sample, then use deeper scans only when the evidence points to a category worth comparing.
